ZEOLITE

A lot of people think zeolite is a magic powder with unlimited micronutrients content. The thruth is you need to feed zeolite with nutrients to ensure sustainable mineral supply to the plant root.
Zeolite, unlike lime or other soil conditioner, they dont degraded into simpler molecules. They are the catalysts. A catalyst can change other molecules but they stay intact throughout the process. They wont changes form.

When you apply zeolite for the first time,the structure is fully loaded with trace elements. For a month or so you will see good results just like the label outside the packaging promised you.
However after a year or so you might notice consistent application of zeolite still not good enough. You’ll see good results but it doesnt solves some problem. Maybe plant disease or dry and flaky soil.

The reason is you forgot to reload the zeolite. They are just ’storeroom’ for your nutrient supply. A very powerful storage, they work amazingly but they are not living things that feed for themselves.

You need to use zeolite alongside organic fertilizer to get the best result. You may treat them as a compliment to organic fertilizer. They are excellent combination in organic farming.
Dont forget to supply enough water to your plants. Zeolite feeds on water too, they can absorb water about 55% more compared to their weight. So in the end, good farming practice keeps your plants healthy.

Trace minerals such as Cu, Mn, Zn, Bo are crucial for nutrient absorption although in very minimal amount, part per million (ppm) unit. For organic compost, adding zeolite provides more micronutrients and ’storage’ for minerals. It is a bonus and quality element in enriching mineral contents and reduce possibility of leaching of nutrient.

What make it so special is zeolite framework are channeled cavities which serve to temporarily store mineral ions, especially soil minerals. The structure is like an opened structure of honeycomb, a combination of alumina and silica ions. Since alumina is a negative charge, the framework is fond of positive charges (opposite attracts), such as K,Na,Mg ions. So that’s how they feed on minerals.

Besides minerals, this magical rock (la rocka magica, called by an ancient scientist) can absorbs water molecules as well. Plenty of them. Almost half of its dry weight. La rocka magica, get its name ‘zeolite’ because it means ‘rock that boils’. When you heat it up, the rock boils because they are releasing water vapor due to high temperature.

So when it can store minerals and water, you get a good container for composting minerals and nutrients. These minerals are loosely binds to zeolite, so when the plant roots absorb minerals from zeolite, they will reload automatically with ions from surrounding. In addition, zeolite can breaks bonding for non-utilized N,P,K or micronutrients and make it available for plants.

ZEOLITE have the best soil conditioning properties. Lime, gypsum, dolomite, azomite and zeolite are different types of minerals. These rocks takes million years to obtain its form and very stable under most extreme condition.

They are natural and organic, consumable, could never contaminate water and earth, in contrary, these minerals are the ’solution to pollution’.

Effective Microorganism





Effective microorganisms (EM) technology has now become a major science, assisting in the creation of sustainable practices for agriculture, animal husbandry, nature farming, environmental stewardship, construction, human health and hygiene, industrial, community activities and etc.
The basic concept of EM in Agriculture is that multiple applications of beneficial and effective microorganisms improve the health of soils that produce healthy crops. EM is effective in organic farming as an alternative to chemicals. Its range of applications since 1982, has expanded into livestock and aquaculture as well as into Community Health areas such as waste treatment and other environmental applications.

Today, EM has become very popular and is used in over 100 countries worldwide. Apart from Agriculture, the most often recognised application of EM is composting your household waste. A "brew" of effective microorganisms can be added to your waste material in your composter which works on the waste and breaks it down. The beneficial role of this microbial solution has the ability to break down organic matter, thereby providing plant nutrients and enhancing physical and chemical properties.

The functional food market is growing at a rate of 15-20% per year, with rising consumer interest in health and continued strong growth in the soft drinks market.Yogurt-based, low acid, nutraceutical beverages targeted to adults and elderly person's needs have recently hit the market. They generally contain effective microorganisms as viable probiotic bacteria ABC type cultures and Maca (Lepidium Meyenii or Lepidium Peruvianum) as a supplement. Maca is a natural product very well known for its invigorating properties, promoting mental clarity, treating impotence, menstrual irregularities, and hormonal imbalance. The yogurt based drink formulation generally consist of yogurt, maca, glucose, stabilizer, natural and artificial flavors, and colorants.

Bakteria Mesra Pertanian

Terdapat beberapa kumpulan bakteria yang memberi faedah kepada aktiviti pertanian yang dipakai dalam penghasilan kompos iaitu EM atau bakteria setempat IMO. Bakteria-bakteria ini wujud bersama-sama dalam bentuk koloni, setiap satu mempunyai fungsi tersendiri dan saling bergantungan antara satu sama lain.

EM boleh dikelaskan kepada 4 kategori yang besar iaitu kumpulan bakteria fotosintetik, bakteria asid laktik, actinomycetes dan yis. Pengelasan ini yang paling mudah difahami dan konsep umum. Bakteria fotosintetik adalah bakteria yang memerlukan cahaya matahari untuk menghasilkan makanannya. Ada banyak bakteria dalam kelas ini, contohnya Chromatrium sp., Chlorotium sp., R. sphaeroldes dan Rhodobacter. Kumpulan ini bertanggungjawab menghasilkan asid amino, asid neukleik, mengikat nitrogen dari udara dan menukarkan gas-gas beracun seperti gas ammonia dan gas hidrogen sulfida kepada unsur nitrogen yang dapat digunakan oleh tumbuhan.
Bakteria asid laktik berfungsi untuk mempercepatkan penguraian dan proses penapaian bahan organik. Penghasilan asid laktik oleh bakteria ini mempercepat penguraian lignin dan selulosa yang merupakan struktur kompleks karbohidrat. Contohnya L. casei, L. plantarium, Streptococus laktis dan Psedococus sp. Asid laktik akan menekan pertumbuhan patogen dan mengurangkan populasinya.

Actinomycetes merupakan mikroorganisma yang suka tolong menolong. Ia selalunya akan wujud bersama bakteria fotosintetik. Seperti jiran-jiran yang baik, actinomycetes akan menggunakan asid amino yang dihasilkan oleh bakteria fotosintetik tadi untuk menghasilkan satu bahan antikuman. Contoh : Micromonospora sp., Nakarda sp., Propinis bakterium sp., Streptomyces albus dan S. griscus.

Kumpulan terakhir ialah yis. Contohnya Canerda c. utilis, S. cerevisiae dan Sacharomyces. Yis menghasilkan substrat / bahan makanan untuk bakteria asid laktik dan actinomycetes, hormon, enzim dan bahan antibiotik.

Pun begitu, terdapat juga kumpulan cendawan penapaian dalam EM tadi. Cendawan ini mempercepatkan penguraian bahan organik, menghasilkan sejenis antimikrob daripada ester alkohol, menghilangkan bau busuk serta mencegah serangga dan ulat perosak. Contohnya Aspergillus oryzae, A. niger, Muchorhiermalis penicillium.
